Apple handset users have been given a new version of Google Talk that is designed with the iPhone and iPod Touch in mind.
The Official Google Mobile Blog confirmed this week that the search engine had put together a reworked version of the application - designed specifically for use with Apple mobile phones.
It said that users of the iPhone, as well as those with browsers enabled on their iPod Touch, would now be able to use their Google Talk accounts on-the-go without the need to access extra software.
"Google Talk runs entirely in the browser so there's no need to download or install anything," the blog advised.
However, some changes have been made in the new version of the chat software and users will need to have Apple Safari open in order to receive new instant messages.
Canadian website iPhone World reports this week that agileMobile has launched a new multiple messenger client specifically for iPhone. The application supports Google Talk as well as MSN, Yahoo! and Jabber, among others.
